Vol au vents : Puff Pastry Tart Recipes

In this video tutorial I show you how to make these delicious vol au vents. They are made puff pastry and it is a small start which makes a great starter.

These homemade vol au vent cases are quick and simple to make. They can be made vegetarian by putting vegetarian toppings.

Ingredients for puff pastry tarts

Puff pastry, homemade puff pastry or store bought

Toppings of your choice, you can some ideas in my video tutorial

Tomato sauce/paste like this one I made for my homemade pizza

The toppings I used in the video are chicken, courgettes and cheese

Optional

Egg wash, one egg with a teaspoon of milk whisked together

Basil for garnish

Method for vol au vents

Pre-heat oven to 200 Celsius. Prepare a cookie tray with baking paper and put to one side. You may need more than one tray, depending on how many you are making.

Roll out the puff pastry quite thinly

Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes from it and put them on a baking tray

Gather up extra dough and roll out more rounds

Put some tomato paste or pesto on the puff pastry rounds and leave a boarder around it

Put the toppings on and then brush the puff pastry tarts boarders with some egg wash (if using).

Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 10 -15 minutes until slightly golden brown and puffed up.

Remove the chicken puff pastry tarts from the oven and leave to cool before serving.
