In this video tutorial I show you how to decorate a cake for beginners. Decorating a cake at home is a lot easier that you expect. It may take a few tries but the key is not to give up.

I baked two 6 inch round Oreo cakes using my favourite Oreo Cake Recipe

When the cakes were in the oven I made white chocolate ganache (I did not whip it) and dark chocolate ganache

I also made some Swiss Meringue Buttercream (doubled the recipe)

When the cakes were ready I let them cool down completely and then cut each one in half

Filled the cakes with the Swiss Meringue Buttercream

Crumb-coated the cakes and chilled them in the fridge. Crumb coating is important because it stops cake crumbs going onto the final icing coat.

I then added the dark and white chocolate ganache in blobs and then smooth the sides with a bench scraper. You may need to dip it in some very hot water and drying with a towel before using on the cake.

You will need a turntable because it helps smooth the cake.

Add more ganache and smooth as best as you can. Chill the cake and then pipe some leftover ganache on top.

I grated some chocolate on top and put mini Oreos on top. Each slice will have an Oreo on top (optional)
