This apple strudel recipe from scratch is easy to make and fun. Apple strudel is a delicious dessert and quite simple to make. Ingredients for apple strudel
Filo pastry, homemade filo pastry or store bought
700 grams apples
100 grams dried fruit (raisins, sultanas, dried cranberries or a mixture of all three)
45 grams soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon mixed spice
1 quarter teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 tablespoon plain flour
some lemon juice
For decorating apple strudel
50 grams melted butter
a handful of flaked almonds
Method for apple strudel
Preheat oven to 190 Celsius. Prepare a baking tray with baking paper and put to one side
Make your filo pastry or prepare your filo pastry as described in the video above
Slice apples, thinly and put them in a bowl and add the lemon juice and mix together
Add in the rest of the ingredients to the apples and mix it in
Spread the apple mixture on to your filo pastry and leave a border around the edges
Brush some melted butter around the boarder you left
Now start to fold the pastry, fold the sides first and then fold the top closest to the apples
Roll up the dough and then place it on to your prepared baking tray.
Shape the apple strudel to fit on your tray if it is not big enough
Brush the top with the melted butter and sprinkle the almond flakes on top
Bake in the oven for about 35-40 minutes until light and golden brown on top
Remove from the oven and leave to cool on the baking tray
Dust some icing sugar on top
Serve warm or cold with custard or ice cream
