Difference between cake drum and cake board

by Dec 2, 20210 comments

In this video tutorial I show you the difference between cake boards and cake drums and explain what each is used for.

A cake drum is thicker than a cake board and it is the one that is decorated with fondant or contact paper and ribbon to complete the look. A cake drum is used at the base of a cake to hold the weight of cakes. Depending on the cake design you may need to use two cake drums

A cake board is usually used to separate layers in a tiered cake or very tall cakes. The cake boards are supposed to be the same size as a cake so that they sit on dowels properly.
