Ingredients for savoury palmiers
250 grams puff pastry, (or more or less dependig how many people you are making t for) store bought or homemade puff pastry. You can also use rough puff pastry which is easier to make.
Tomato paste, add seasoning and herbs to it (optional). I made one similar to the one I made for my homemade pizza
Cheese of your choice. I used mozarella and cheddar mix
For decorating the puff pastry palmiers
Egg wash for decorating (optional)
Method for savoury palmiers
Prepare one or two baking trays by putting baking paper on them. The amount of trays you will use depends on how much puff pastry you are going to use.
Roll out the puff pastry until about 35cm x 15 cm
Spread the tomato paste on to the puff pastry
Sprinkle cheese on top
Roll the puff pastry from the long side to the centre, then roll the other side to the centre so that they meet up
Cut the pamiers and place on the baking trays
Put the savoury palmiers in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes to firm up
About 5 minutes before getting them out of the oven, pre-heat oven to 200 Celsius
Brush with egg wash (optional). You make the egg wash by mixing an egg and milk and whisking together
Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top and on the sides
Leave them on the baking tray for about 5 – 10 minutes to get the cheese to settle and serve. Can serve warm or cold. Put them on a cooling rack to cool completely
