The seeds are used, whole or ground, as an ingredient in many foods, and they are pressed to yield poppyseed oil.<\/p>\n<p>Poppy seeds, from my experience, do not add any flavour to the actual muffins, it just adds some crunch. Some people say that poppy seeds have a nutty texture but I cannot taste it.<\/p>\n<p>If you like the cupcakes to taste more lemony you can substitute some of the milk with lemon juice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>215 grams plain flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<li>pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>265 grams caster sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon poppy seeds, plus 2 tsp for sprinkling<\/li>\n<li>150 ml vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>2 large eggs<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>200 ml milk<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>zest of 1 medium lemon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For the Icing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/meadowbrown-trh1.wp1.site\/the-best-vanilla-american-buttercream-icing\/\">Make some American buttercream icing<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Grate zest of 2 lemons and add it to the buttercream and cream together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 180C and then line muffin tray with paper cases.<\/li>\n<li>Mix all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and then add the wet ingredients and the lemon zest and then mix until smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden on top and springy to the touch. Test with a cake tester or toothpick to make sure it is properly cooked in the middle.<\/li>\n<li>Let the lemon poppy seed muffins cool in the tray for 5 minutes and then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.<\/li>\n<li>Make the American buttercream icing and pipe on top.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poppy seed is an oilseed obtained from the opium poppy plant.
