{"id":2690,"date":"2017-10-08T08:12:23","date_gmt":"2017-10-08T08:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress-1235014-4411782.cloudwaysapps.com\/?p=2690"},"modified":"2018-12-27T19:33:40","modified_gmt":"2018-12-27T19:33:40","slug":"make-sweet-shortcrust-pastry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meadowbrownbakery.com\/?p=2690","title":{"rendered":"How to make sweet shortcrust pastry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this video tutorial I show you how to make sweet shortcrust pastry which can be used to make several sweet desserts like a <a href=\"https:\/\/meadowbrown-trh1.wp1.site\/how-to-make-a-bakewell-tart\/\">Bakewell tart<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/meadowbrown-trh1.wp1.site\/how-to-make-lemon-meringue-pie\/\">lemon meringue pie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is simple to make and it can be made in advance so that if you are entertaining you have one less thing to do on the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>225g plain flour, plus extra for dusting<\/li>\n<li>150g butter, chilled<\/li>\n<li>25g icing sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 large egg, beaten<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put some flour into a bowl and rub in the butter using your fingertips until the butter is all mixed in.<\/li>\n<li>Add in the icing sugar and mix it in with your hands.<\/li>\n<li>Put the egg in to the mixture and (if necessary 2 tablespoons cold water) and use a fork to mix the egg in<\/li>\n<li>Put the fork to one side and use your hands to form a dough.<\/li>\n<li>Roll out the dough on a surface dusted with some icing sugar. Lift the dough up by rolling it onto the rolling pin and put the dough in a 23cm\/9in fluted flan tin.<\/li>\n<li>Use your hands to press down the dough on the bottom and all around the edges and transfer to the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>To blind bake the sweet shortcrust pastry<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 200 Celsius<\/li>\n<li>Put some non-stick baking paper on top of the pastry and put baking beans or uncooked rice on top of the paper.<\/li>\n<li>Bake in the pre-heated oven for 15 minutes, then remove the beans and paper and cook for a further 5 minutes to dry out the base.
