Stir until sugar has dissolved.  Leave until it is lukewarm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Another option is to put the sugar, milk and butter in a bowl and melt over a low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.  Leave until it is lukewarm)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crush the cardamom pods, sift the flour and and the cardamom and mixed spice into a bowl<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stir in the yeast and mixed fruit and flaked almonds (if using), make a well in the centre and pour in the milk mixture and egg and mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it is too thick to mix with a spoon use your hands to knead it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put the dough on a floured surface and knead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put  the mixture into a bowl and leave until doubled in size<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When ready put the dough on a floured worktop then roll out into a square, about 25 cm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll the marzipan into a sausage shape <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pace it in the middle of the dough and leave a boarder around it, fold the dough over<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Place seam side down on baking tray.
